End of Year Celebrations in Reunion Island
The end-of-year holidays in Reunion have a special flavor! 🏝️
Here, no snow or freezing cold, but sun, beaches and a festive atmosphere imbued with rich local traditions.
The "20 désanm", starts the countdown of the festivities. December 20 is a highlight in Reunion, as it commemorates the abolition of slavery: concerts, shows and fireworks mark this important date in local culture.
The approach of Christmas Eve, we also have our Christmas markets, with in mind that of Barachois in Saint-Denis, the most famous on the island. We love to walk there to discover the local crafts and taste culinary specialties. It’s the perfect place to find original and handmade gifts. And since we can’t resist a little magic, we also take advantage of the illuminations that make the whole coast of Saint-Denis sparkle for a memorable photo shoot!
A New Year’s Eve under the stars
In Reunion, the most impressive is undoubtedly the New Year’s Eve under the stars! Every year, the Hermitage beach becomes a meeting point for locals and tourists alike, all of whom have come to experience this unique moment: celebrating the New Year with their feet in the sand. Some even set up several days in advance to prepare for this festive event.
It is an unforgettable experience. Families and friends gather on the beaches for picnics, dancing, and watching fireworks illuminate the midnight sky. And for the most daring, nothing like starting the year with a midnight swim in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. A magical and festive atmosphere like nowhere else!
